Osteopathy

Osteopaths treat back pain, neck pain, headaches, postural problems due to driving or work, sports injuries and postural changes in pregnancy.

We treat people of all ages, from babies to older people, both men and women, using a variety of techniques including massage, mobilisation and articulation.

Each treatment package is tailored to you with the aim of reducing any pain and discomfort and increasing your flexibility. A working diagnosis, treatment, preventative advice and rehabilitation is all part of your care. Your care includes a full case history to include any previous medical problems and a list of any medicines, as appropriate. Your treatment will start on your first appointment once this case history has been taken.

NICE guidelines (2009), made recommendations for lower back pain and non specific lower back pain. These included manual therapy as practiced by osteopaths.

WOMEN’S HEALTH

Neck pain, Upper back pain, Pelvic girdle pain, Lower back pain

These are some of the common complaints you may experience as your body changes, and adapts to the normal developments that takes place during your pregnancy. How your body adapts can vary due to current strain patterns that may be affected by increased circulation, weight This can lead to discomfort and pain at a time when your want to feel at your best.

Osteopathy may help to balance these strains and allow your body to accommodate these changes. One of the principles of osteopathy is, structure governs function. As the structure of your body changes then how your body functions may change. This may result in discomfort and pain.

BABIES AND CHILDREN

Why would you need to treat babies and children?

Babies go through huge compressive forces during the birth process. It is often considered to be one of the most stressful events of our life!

Babies heads are quite resilient and accommodate this process by tucking the chin down and presenting the smallest diameter to the birth canal, the soft bones of the skull can overlap to help with this. Crying and sucking usually help to rebalance the head. There are many factors that can cause strains at this time and osteopathy may help to relieve these strain patterns.

A study by fellow osteopath, Clive Hayden, described that parents perceived a reduction in colic symptoms, improved sleep patterns and less irritability following treatment.

As children grow and develop their bodies change. They may have falls or experience strains due to their posture. These can cause aches and pains that may be helped with treatment.
